Unknown gunmen on Thursday stormed Katsak Village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna, killing 13 and injuring 15 others.

The incident happened while residents were celebrating their annual cultural festival amid funfair as the ceremony that began peacefully turned bloody, leaving the people in a state of confusion and devastation.

The attack took the residents by surprise as they never expected it. The victims included men, women and children.

Angered by this latest attack, the people of the area have condemned government’s effort at providing security to them, calling on both the federal and state governments to step up the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the area.

Also shaken by the high scale destruction of lives and property in the southern part of Kaduna State, the Senator representing the zone in the National Assembly, Danjuma La’ah, has called for a thorough investigation as well as a proactive action to end the rampage of gunmen against his people.

The senator also wants the Federal Government to rebuild all destroyed villages just as in the northeast and also train local vigilantes to compliment the effort of security operatives in the affected areas.

There had been constant clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the southern part of Kaduna state over grazing land.

Such bloody clashes over the years have claimed more than 500 lives.
