Tears as Properties worth Millions are burnt in Balogun Market


Not less than seven buildings of Popular Balogun market Lagos Island has been burnt with fire.

Balogun market had experienced a similar inferno last year which led to destruction of properties and goods worth millions of naira.

Earlier today, fire started from the building on the opposite side of Oluwole Car Park on Martins Street.

The fire started when someone was trying to refill bis generator with petrol while it was on.

According to Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, the fire started after someone in the market attempted to refuel his generator while it was on. This immediately led to an explosion and the fire immediately started spreading.

The fire weakened the pillars of some of the affected buildings thereby leading to the collapse of two buildings.
