Rivers bans meeting of Igbo group in Oyigbo LG

The Rivers State Government has halted a planned meeting of some Igbo occupants in the Oyigbo Local Government Area, refering to fears that the meeting could start new distress in the area.

The United Igbo community was initially planned for today at Oyigbo.

Data and Communication Commissioner, Paulinus Nsirim, said government has coordinated security agencies “to ensure that the said meeting does not hold to forestall a breakdown of law and order in the area.”

He didn’t elaborate on the security concern.

Oyigbo local government area shares boundry with Abia State which is viewed as a fortress of the prohibited Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group is being accused for lawlessness in the state and Imo.
