PDP governors describe Buhari’s government as ‘incompetent’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors on Monday described the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President Muhammadu Buhari as “incompetent and rudderless”.

The opposition party governors met in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, to discuss the state of affairs in Nigeria.

At the end of the meeting, the governors called on the presidency to take bold steps to reduce tension and curb insecurity.

They backed the calls for ranching as a solution to the farmer-herder clashes and asked the president to begin the process for a constitutional amendment to give more power to states.

The governors also asked the federal government to formulate policies that will foster unity in the country.

“The meeting enjoins all Nigerians to work together to achieve peace and harmony with one another devoid of discrimination based on ethnicity, religion and other cleavages,” the governors said in their communique.

“To this end, the meeting called on the incompetent and rudderless APC Government to take bold and deliberate steps to de-escalate ‘and lower tensions in our country and concentrate on projects and policies that will enhance and promote atonal unity and cohesion.

“The meeting reiterated our earlier call for the National Assembly to expedite action on the passage of the Electoral Act that will ensure a free and fair election, including provisions for electronic accreditation and electronic transmission of votes.”

Those in attendance include Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto governor; Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom governor, Douye Diri, Bayelsa governor: Samuel Ortom, Benue governor; Ifeanyi Okowa, Delta governor; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu governor; Nyesom Wike, Rivers governor; Seyi Makinde, Oyo governor; Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Adamawa governor; Godwin Obaseki, Edo governor, and Bala Mohammed, Bauchi governor.
