Gunmen murder 8 in Niger’s Koure, including six French nationals


Eight individuals, including six French nationals, have been slaughtered in an assault in Niger’s southern area of Koure, as per reports refering to nearby sources.

“There are eight dead: two Nigeriens including a guide and a driver, while the other six are French,” Tidjani Ibrahim Katiella, the governor of the southwest Tillaberi Region, was cited as saying by AFP news organization on Sunday.

“We are dealing with the circumstance, we will give more information later,” the lead representative stated, without demonstrating who was behind the assault.

A source near the natural administrations said the ambush occurred around 11:30am (10:30 GMT) six kilometers (four miles) east of the town of Koure, where a wildlife park hosting the last herd of the so-called West African giraffes is located. Later on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron’s office affirmed French nationals had been killed in Niger, without giving any extra details. It said Macron talked on the telephone with Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou.

Prior, a spokesman for France’s foreign ministry said it was making looks at following the reports over the murdering of the French nationals.
