Governor Sanwo Olu Visits Milwaukee To Complete Purchase Of Trains


The Executive Governor Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has visited Milwaukee to purchase two trains for the state.

The trains were originally intended for a high-speed rail line to connect Madison and Milwaukee.

Sanwoolu was officially welcomed by the Acting Milwaukee Mayor, Cavalier Johnson during a public event, on Tuesday, at the Milwaukee facilities of Spanish train manufacturer Talgo.

Johnson, while after the event, stated that It’s a little bittersweet.” He said, “I’m sending my congratulations to the people of Lagos, but also a little disappointed that we missed out on the opportunity to have those trainsets operating here in Milwaukee and in Wisconsin.”

According to a press release, the purchased trains are set to become part of West Africa’s first operational metro system. They are expected to begin operation later this year, serving up to half a million passengers in the Lagos area daily.

Considering the fact that Lagos state is the largest commercial capital of Nigeria and the economic hub of West Africa economy, it records the highest vehicular movement of the Nigeria total mobility.

Undoubtedly, this giant step taken by the Lagos State government will really help the burden of heavy traffic on roads in the state.
