FG reveals plans to make DSTV offer a pay-per-view subscription to Nigerians


The Federal Government has made the announcement of its intended plans to enforce that the cable television service company in Nigeria DSTV to offer a pay-per-view subscription service to its Nigerian subscribers.

The federal government also made the announcement that it has made some amendments to Nigeria’s broadcasting code to in order prevent companies like DSTV from monopolising its channels and contents, and enable diversity and fair competition.

This development is coming at the same time the House of Representatives gave an order to the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission asking DSTV to reverse its new subscription rates that was made on June 1, 2020.

The House of representatives have faulted DSTV for limiting it’s Nigerian subscribers to only prepaid plans. The House described it as exploitative and unfair.
