Despite NBC ban, ‘Science Student’ thrives online

Despite the recent ‘No To Be Broadcast’ clamp down on Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, the song has continued to garner momentum on social media.

Reports had it that the NBC notified all radio and television stations across the country of the proscription.

But on Sunday, Olamide took to his Instagram page to share a video of a female boxer dancing to ‘Shaku Shaku,’ the dance steps associated with the song.

Recall that on January 20, 2018, filmmaker and communications expert, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki had made an online video asking the NBC to ‘ban’ Olamide’s song saying it promoted drug abuse. He also called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commisison (EFCC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to confront Olamide because he termed the song ‘vulgar.’

“The NDLEA can’t fight drug abuse if Olamide Adedeji’s “SCIENCE STUDENT” (Kosewe Kosegbo) is celebrating drug use,” wrote Obaseki.

“Let’s say #NoToDRUGS. Pls if you have a Child, a conscience, a Young One, SHARE TILL THEY HEAR!”
