Antonio Rudiger names XI of toughest-ever opponents

Antonio Rudiger’s career has seen him ply his trade all over Europe.

After spells in a number of German youth teams, including Borussia Dortmund’s, Rudiger eventually made his senior debut in 2012 with VfB Stuttgart.

The towering defender went on to notch 80 appearances for Stuttgart’s senior side, before being loaned to Serie A side AS Roma in 2015.

After an impressive loan spell in Italy, Roma signed Rudiger on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016.

In total, the now 27-year-old made 72 appearances across all competitions for the Giallorossi.

Chelsea than snapped up the centre-back in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be just shy of £32m.

The German international has since gone on to establish himself as a pivotal member of the Blues’ backline.

After honing his craft in three of Europe’s major leagues, and in both the Champions League and Europa League, it’s fair to assume that Rudiger has come up against some top talents.

And now, the centre-half has named the 11 toughest players whom he has faced during his career.

Unsurprisingly, Rudiger’s XI is filled to the brim with top-class talent, with current Premier League stars dominating the list.

From the English top-flight, Rudiger opted to pick Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Kevin De Bruyne, N’Golo Kante and Sergio Aguero.

Rudiger’s XI was then filled out by Manuel Neuer, Sergio Ramos, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rudiger also weighed in on the age-old debate of Messi vs Ronaldo, with the Chelsea standout having named the former as the best ever:

‘If I had to pick one it would be Messi. Is he the best ever? I didn’t see Pele or Diego Maradona playing because that was not my time, so it’s Messi.’ As quoted by Sky Sports News.

Rudiger’s XI: Neuer, Wan-Bissaka, Ramos, van Dijk, Robertson, Iniesta, De Bruyne, Kante, Messi, Ronaldo, Aguero.
