Man city thrash Watford, win treble in England

Manchester City broke a 116-year record by thrashing Watford FC 6-0 to win the FA Cup final at the Wembley on Saturday.

Man City victory over Watford saw them achieve the biggest FA Cup final win since Bury beat Derby 6-0 in 1903

Guardiola’s men added the FA Cup to their Premier League title and Carabao Cup win, becoming the first English men’s team to achieve the feat.

City, who last won the FA Cup in 2011, celebrate their sixth triumph in football’s oldest competition, while manager Josep “Pep” Guardiola becomes the eight manager in English football to win the EPL, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in a list that includes Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

Watford played well and actually had the best chance of the game squandered by Roberto Pereyra, before City took the lead through David Silva in the 26th minute.

Twelve minutes later, they doubled their lead through Raheem Sterling.

Sixteen minutes into the second half, Kevin De Bruyne scored the third for City to compound the Hornets woes.

Gabriel Jesus slotted the ball past the helpless Gomes in the 68th minute for City’s fourth goal of the day.

Sterling completed his hattrick — the first in an FA Cup since 1953 — in the 88th minute to complete a 6-0 rout and cap a wonderful season for himself.

Sterling got his historic hat trick when he tapped in a fumble from Heurelho Gomes.

With City’s FA Cup victory, Wolverhampton Wanderers have qualified for the Europa League by dint of their seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

The Molineux outfit would go into the second qualifying round, which starts on July 25.

In the same vein, the Cityzens FA Cup win has also led Manchester United straight into the group stages of the Europa League.
