Kenneth Omeruo joins Leganes from Chelsea

Kenneth Omeruo on Tuesday signed for Club Deportivo Leganés on loan from Chelsea.

The Chelsea defender will spend the entirety of the 2018/19 season with the La Liga club.

It is the seventh time the Super Eagles player will be shipped out on loan from the north London club.

Omeruo, who has so far been unable to lock down first-team opportunities at Chelsea, renewed his contract last season with the former English Premier League (EPL) champions till 2020.

Koye Sowemimo, a representative of Temple Management Company (TMC) which handles Omeruo’s affairs, described the player as “Nigeria’s best central defender”.

“We are delighted to see Kenneth join C.D. Leganes in La Liga. This move brings him closer to his supporters who will now be able to watch him regularly on TV,” Sowemimo said in a statement made available to TheCable on Wednesday.

“This move comes off the back of a successful world cup outing where he demonstrated why he is Nigeria’s best central defender.”

Last season, the Nigeria defender made 28 Turkish Super Lig appearances for Kasimpasa.

Omeruo was among Nigeria’s squad to the recently-concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Leganés will kick off the 2018/ 2019 La Liga season with an away game at Atletico Bilbao.
