Eagles Captain Mikel Undergoes Successful Surgery in London

Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has successfully undergone surgery to correct a hip injury picked up while in action for Tianjin TEDA in the Chinese Super League.

Mikel, who turned 30 earlier this month, has been out of action for several weeks following the injury with his last appearance for Tianjin TEDA coming in their 2-0 Chinese Super League victory over Chongqing Lifan.

The former Chelsea midfielder arrived in London earlier this week to avail himself of some of the finest hands, and has taken to social media to post an update that the surgery was a success.

The Eagles skipper wrote on Instagram: ”Surgery went well, rehab next… can’t wait to be back. Shame I can’t be on the pitch fighting with my team #TianjinTEDA #TEDAFightingFightingFighting.”

Mikel’s Tianjin TEDA suffered yet another defeat in his absence, bowing 4-0 to Hebei CFFC as they remain 10th on the Chinese topflight table with eight points from seven matches.

His successful surgery will come as relief to handlers of the national team who gear up for the commencement of qualifiers for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 World Cup.
