The simmering dissent in the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to have taken a new turn, as 23 members of the 30-member state executive have affirmed their support for the emergence of Senator Simeon Ajibola as the party’s governorship candidate.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the State Deputy Chairman of the party, Mr Attahiru Manko, berated the party’s Chairman, Iyiola Oyedepo, for his statement over the result of the governorship primaries.

Mr Oyebode had said that he would wait for the affirmation of the candidature from the national headquarter of the party, a statement Mr Manko said was not correct.

He questioned why the the chairman should foot-drag in presenting the winner to the members, since the primary election had been adjudged free, fair and credible by the electoral committee and other aspirants.

The Kwara State PDP had witnessed series of controversies over the choice a governorship candidate.

The first election conducted in the state was canceled with a new election conducted. After the second election, Senator Simeon Ajibola was declared winner but some members of the party also refused to accept the result of the election. They said Senator Ajibola was being imposed on them.

Despite several threats from hackers Sony (SNE) Pictures is making the controversial Seth Rogen comedy available at a limited number of theaters starting on Christmas.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Chief Executive, Michael Lynton, said the studio was looking for more options to screen the film, which major US theater chains pulled because of threats from hackers who warned of a September 11, 2001 style of attack.

Lynton said in Tuesday’s statement: “We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day.” He said Sony was trying to secure other platforms and more theaters “so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.”

US President Barack Obama has welcomed the decision by Sony to screen the comedy about North Korea in a limited number of US cinemas on Christmas Day.

He had earlier criticised Sony for pulling the film following a cyber-attack and threats against cinemas.

Mr Obama had called Sony’s earlier decision to cancel the film’s release a “mistake”.

The US has accused North Korea of being behind the cyber-attack.

North Korea has denied that it was behind the cyber-attack on Sony. But it praised the attack and had long condemned The Interview, which depicts a fictional plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The Interview was originally due to be released on up to 3,000 screens on Christmas Day.

The film is expected to show in 200 mostly independent and art-house cinemas on Thursday. Hackers have threatened fresh attacks.

A national security official said US authorities did not rate the threats by hackers against theatergoers as credible and that he was unaware of any plans by U.S. agencies to issue warnings of possible attacks on exhibitors screening the film.

The Residents of Oke-Odo community in Danjuma area, Ondo Road in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State have cried out for governments’ intervention in providing basic social amenities, especially good roads that are lacking in the community.

The community, having about 20 thousand inhabitants has been in existence for over 30 years, and yet, there has not been any form of development, despite being part of the State Capital.

Severe erosion has damaged many of the roads and houses located in the area, making transportation very difficult for the residents.

Electricity supply to the area is also very poor, as they often experience several weeks of total power outage.

Other basic social amenities such as potable water and health facilities are also lacking.

Many of the tenants in the community who could not bear the inconvenience any longer have sought for accommodation elsewhere, while the few ones remaining are contemplating to leave as well.

The Chairman of the Landlords Association in the community, Mr Bade Adaralegbe, itemised the amenities desperately needed by the residents and lamented the agonies faced by the residents as a result of lack of these amenities.
