The Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has accused UEFA of lacking the courage to provide a challenge to his leadership and called on the European governing body to be respectful of his wish to continue in the role.

The 78-year-old is bidding for a fifth term as head of football’s world governing body and has urged UEFA to put someone up against him or be “respectful” of his wish to continue.

Speaking in an interview with CNN World Sport, the 78-year-old said: “I have been asked by the national associations to be our candidate again because nobody that is strong was in. So I go there.

“All those who want to get rid of me should come. All this opposition is coming now, it’s unfortunate to say – but it’s true – it’s coming from Nyon, from Uefa. They don’t have the courage to come in. So let me go [on] – be respectful.”

He continued: “Football is a team sport. Let’s go together with the team. I invite the confederation of Uefa and especially the leaders of Uefa that are so bitterly attacking me: Join! Join! Football is a unity”.

Three candidates have so far stated their intention to challenge Blatter; Frenchman Jerome Champagne, Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan and former star footballer David Ginola.

All must get the backing of at least five of the 209 member associations of FIFA by a deadline of January 29th to get on the ballot paper for the election on May 29.

Hery Rajaonarimampianina says government is ready to alleviate poverty

Madagascar President, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, on Sunday announced the replacement of eight ministers, including a new finance minister, after dissolving the government earlier this month amid mounting public frustration over power and other issues.

Air force commander and businessman, Jean Ravelonarivo, was sworn in as the new premier.

There were innovations in the Ministries of health, culture, trade among others. While 22 other ministers maintained their jobs.

Maurice Gervais Rakotoarimanana, an accountant who has worked with the World Bank, would be the next Minister of Finance and budget.

The president said in a press conference that special attention would be given to building the energy sector saying, “This government is ready to fight. Ready to fight against poverty, ready to fight for the development of infrastructure, for education, for health”.

The mineral-rich island nation has been struggling to rebuild its economy which was crippled after a coup in 2009 that drove away donors and investors.

A peaceful election in 2013 has redeemed the nation a bit, but it is still struggling to impose stable government and economic. Challenges remain such as weaning the nation off fuel and electricity subsidies.

According to analysis by the International Monetary Fund released last week, Madagascar’s economy boosted about 3 percent in 2014, and could also increase by 5 percent this year if it can increase tax revenue and improve the business climate.

Madagascar is one of the world’s poorest countries, despite its reserves of nickel, cobalt, gold, uranium and other minerals.

Correcting Nigerians Orientation Requires Right Leadership – Fabiyi

The President of Turaki Vanguard and a member of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Oladimeji Fabiyi, says Nigeria’s future depends on the peoples ability to elect the right leader that will help change the peoples orientation.

He suggested that Nigerians should elect a disciplined leader that could change the focus of Nigerians and establish a fresh air of a working system.

He told Channels Television on Monday that a peace accord that was signed by the presidential candidates of political parties would not translate to a violence-free process, describing the process as laughable and a mirage.

“The peace accord signing was laughable. Buhari will be in his voting in Katsina and when there is violence in the state capital, will Buhari be there to tell them to stop?,” Politicians cautions are no longer effective because the people do not believe in them any longer.

“How many politicians have the interest of Nigerians at heart?” he questioned.

Mr Fabiyi said that “Nigeria’s political activities is about selfish interest,” emphasising that it had not done Nigerians any good.

“Politicians are holding the key to the system and they have not brought a better deal for Nigerians.

“It is unfortunate we are where we are now.

“There should not have been tension at this point in time,” he said, urging Nigerian leaders to eschew selfishness, which he said had brought the nation to where it was.

According to him, such commitment to good governance would bridge the disconnection between the led and the leaders.

Mr Fabiyi said that the high rate of poverty in the nation had also contributed to why people take to violence to please politicians who give them money, requesting that they carry out some acts of violence.
